Elementary teacher. Title 1. Windows > Mirrors. Broken filter. Politically homeless. Devil’s advocate. Snarky with a touch of sweetness.
There is nothing for teachers on this side of the pearly gates better than the mute button on Zoom while elearning. Amen and amen! I love me some call and response. It’s the response when I didn’t call…

As a teacher, seeing what life looks like at home during remote learning, as well as their at-home personalities adds so much perspective to who they are at school.

If you’re white, seeing the world from another perspective is crucial, here are some of my favorite ‘windows’ for understanding different perspectives. Here are some of the books in my classroom that are windows for people like me, and a voice for those they represent.

What appears in students as boredom, focus, and laziness is often not. They are completely missing critical thinking skills.

Asking ‘how can I make this better?’ or ‘am I correct?’ or even ‘how do I start?’ don’t exist. The minimum is then the end goal, by default.

How do we fix it?

This is why reading is important. 50% of USians read so poorly that they are unable to perform simple tasks such as reading prescription drug labels. At least 45 million are functionally illiterate; 130 million more can't finish a children's book.

This book comes out in May and I’ve had the pleasure to read it to my fourth graders. It’s gonna be a big hit! I haven’t had students as invested and interactive with a book in a long time! #edusky #kidlitsky #eledsky
