yeah, they just make the top part flat and it doesn't curve with the top of the joycon so all it can do is sit on top instead of locking into place like a case normally does

i bought just the grips, not wanting a case to interfere with the dock and the grips are so horrible, they don't actually fit securely on the joycons and come off so easily.
