JG is a great pick! I think my answer is Cormac McCarthy, but honestly the lonely stoic cowboy might get a bit played out by decade three. Ballard would come with more variety for sure.

It is! In theory, anyway — I haven't played it yet. Honestly I bought it because of the Cowboy Bebop vibes but it doesn't seem like my kind of game.

@shirleyishmael.bsky.social for me it's At the Mountains of Madness I think. A real sense of time and adventure.

But I adore all of the ones where it's just the author stand-in wandering around old towns and neighbourhoods in New England and finding, like, a spooky house that he can't find again.
