This article in @thetrace.org highlights how a network of doctors and medical students, Scrubs Addressing the Firearm Epidemic (SAFE), are advocating for gun violence prevention training to be required in medical schools, so that future doctors can help stop firearm injuries before they happen.

We ❤️ knowing future doctors are committed to firearm injury prevention!

Did you know our 3A’s Framework (Approach, Assess, Act) is included in SAFE’s curriculum?

Only about a quarter of medical schools include training on how to discuss safe gun storage and firearm injury prevention with patients. Scrubs Addressing the Firearm Epidemic is working to change that — and ensure that future doctors play a role in preventing gun violence.
Most Medical Schools Don't Require Gun Violence Prevention Training. This Group Wants to Change That.
Scrubs Addressing the Firearm Epidemic has an ambitious plan to teach future doctors about gun violence prevention.

¡Buscamos gente para un studio!

Los de CVP quieren saber sus perspectivas sobre los ERPO y otros enfoques para prevenir la violencia armada.

Nuestro objetivo es conectarnos con personas que son afectadas por la violencia armada.

Seeking study participants!

CVP researchers want to hear your perspectives about ERPOs and other approaches to preventing gun violence.

Our goal is to connect with people who are impacted by—but often left out of conversations about—gun violence.

EMS clinicians typically respond after an emergency or crisis occurs. Findings from this study suggest that their unique prehospital perspective and skills can also be leveraged to help prevent firearm injuries before they occur.

Conclusions: "As the sole health care providers for many patients and given their unique prehospital perspective, with additional training, EMS clinicians can expand their role in firearm injury prevention."

Abstract
Background
Firearm-related injury is a significant public health problem in the United States. Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel are uniquely positioned to recognize and counsel individuals at risk, but little is known about their firearm screening and counseling practices, experience with firearms, and training needs. To address these knowledge gaps and inform training efforts, this study examined the current and potential role of EMS clinicians in firearm injury prevention.

Did you know California CCW license classes are now required to include one hour of mental health training?

BulletPoints Community has a free video that teaches firearm owners how to recognize warning signs of mental health crises + ways to keep those in crisis safe.
Infographic reads: Why mental health and firearms? ...because they increase the lethality of a crisis situation. Clip art images of head/brain + gun = red exclamation point warning icon.
