The FunnyPlaying stuff I've used has been great. I didn't do their GBP kit, but my GBA and GBC are both their stuff and I love 'em. I buy their replacement shells instead of modifying my original shells though.

It's worth noting that while Mastodon does support moving instances, it only redirects your follows/followers lists when you move. So if you find a cooler, niche community to join you'll be able to take follows/followers, but your posts will remain on the old instance.
