I think if that was your biggest hurdle, world and wilds especially simplified the tracking system and you can easily find the monster on the map! Rise also does this I believe, but yeah older games definitely made you explore and get to know the environments...
newer games definitely help you out!

That being said, Rise is also a great game that I think might be a little less overwhelming to start with as it follows the older formula of stages rather than an open world, and is much more "pick up and play" than Wilds.

What part of monhun turned you off initially? :0

I think Wilds has done a great job at creating a beginner-friendly environment! The main story is (for better or for worse) essentially a giant tutorial that sets a foundation for the rest of the game, aka the ACTUAL game lol

I mean I have the other one, and admittedly I hardly drink now....but what a bummer
