A little late but I had some thoughts on Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2.
XBOX Series S Released 2025/10/29 The Outer Worlds 2 Everything from the first game has been brought back to the table with a new level of detail and care. The characters are all interesting and enjoyable to talk to and the only companion that I did not invest much time in was the robot Valerie. The plot is a winding tale of subterfuge and intrigue that many times has you questioning if your choices are even the right ones. The best way to play this in my opinion is to just make the choices you feel are correct and live with the consequences. One thing I have loved about this series has been the level of care they put into making every skill worthwhile. In other series, if you invest in skills like Science or Speech you are left dead in the water when combat rears its head. However it seemed like the developers were very aware of that pitfall. Most skills have an effect on the damage you deal in combat, and the others provide defensive bonuses. So if you want to focus on Medicine, and Science, you will have specific damage boosts to help you in combat. My first playthrough prioritized skills that I would not normally use with the only directly offensive skill being Explosives, and it was an absolute blast! The biggest glow up to the series is in the Flaws system. After playing for a while you will be alerted with a pop up stating that “The Earth Directorate has found a flaw in you!”. This is based on actions you have taken. You are given an option to opt into a powerful perk with a, usually hilarious, downside. There are a few that are game breaking, but the game does warn you that they are not intended for first playthroughs. The flaws are almost always fun, such as Foot in Mouth, which increases your experience points earned but every so often will randomly select a dialogue option for you. The game is a fantastic experience. It was flawed a bit at launch but after an update or two all the kinks had seemed to be sorted out. The game blends a cruel reality w…
