We arrived in Jasper, Alberta, before shops in this mountain town opened. That means I didn’t get to taste a beaver tail. Sadly, the bakery was closed. Jasper is the commercial center of #JasperNationalPark, with its snow-covered glacier-fed lakes, forests and rivers. #trains #TheCanadian #canada

Rolling across the prairie in the province of Saskatchewan — by fields of brown-red-yellow wheat, scattered farms, grain silos, and under a pastel-colored sky. Everyday is different on #TheCanadian. Next stop is Saskatoon. I can’t get the Guess Who out of my head. #trains #VIARail #canada #adventure

Day 2 — Our train ride to Winnipeg on #TheCanadian, with a stop in cold and snowy Sioux Lookout. It’s one of the World’s great rail adventures, stretching 2,740 miles from Toronto to Vancouver.

Riding the #CanadianRockies in a snowstorm, just outside of Jaspar, Alberta. On our way to Vancouver by way of Yellowhead Pass, which lies inside #JasperNationalPark and #MountRobson Provincial Park. Magic. #trains #TheCanadian #travel #nationalparks #canada

There’s nothing quite as grand as riding #TheCanadian at Christmas time. It’s one of the world’s great rail adventures, five-days and 2,775 miles across Canada, Toronto to Vancouver. #trains #VIARail #travel #adventures

#TheCanadian in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, from my December 2023 trip on the transcontinental train by #VIARail. Traversing the Canadian Rockies was certainly the most dramatic part of the five-day 2,775 trip, but racing across the prairies of Saskatchewan was stunning, just stunning. #trains #travel

At 3,590 feet tall, El Capitan is a bucket list destination for rock climbers from around the world. Most stay in the nearby Camp 4, on the National Register of Historic Places for its role in rock climbing history, where they pitch tents and share strategies. #nationalparks #yosemite #travel

Yosemite Views, Glacier Point: The first, a sunset over Glacier Point with an ever-so-small slice of moon, was what we saw every night looking up from the #YosemiteValleyLodge, and the second was what we saw when we stood on Glacier Point looking down on the Valley. #nationalparks #hiking #travel

Walking among giants: A fire two-plus years ago damaged some of the magnificent Sequoia trees — some hundreds of feet tall and dating back to before Christ — but people here say climate change is more of a threat to the ancient trees. #nationalparks #yosemite #mariposagrove #hiking

It’s one of the world’s great rail adventures — 2,740 miles across Canada, Toronto to Vancouver. And part of what makes riding #TheCanadian so grand is the food. Everything is made fresh daily by the train’s chef. And nothing is served twice. Passengers share meals — and stories. #trains #travel

Today’s hike in the #clevelandmetroparks. Beautiful! How — and where — was your hike today? #nationalparks #hiking #trails #southchagrinreservation #henrychurchrock

The perfect place to get lost in Nature: They’re not part of our #nationalparks but, for me, they are just as wonderful. The #clevelandmetroparks offer more than 25,000 acres and 325 miles of trails. My go-to place. Today, a waterfall and fly fisherman in the #southchagrinreservation #hiking #trails

Shadows play: Hiking Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona. It’s not among our #nationalparks but the area’s history, rock formations and #hiking make it a bucket-list trip for sure. 6.6.2022 #bellrock #sedona #travel

Yosemite views: Lazy days at Moore Cottage, part of the Victorian-era resort-style Wawona Hotel, built in 1876. The hotel is near the South Gate of Yosemite National Park. 6.13.2024 #yosemite #wawonahotel #nationalparks #hiking #travel

On top of the world: Glacier Point rises 3,200 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor and it’s like no other view in the world. It’s like hiking into the sky. That’s Nevada Falls, in the middle, and, to the left, Half Dome. 6.16.2024 #nationalparks #hiking #yosemite

It’s all about perspective. (I remind myself of this daily). Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River in Page, Arizona, as seen from the overlook above and from a raft on the river. It’s part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. 6.2.2022 & 6.3.2022 #horseshoebend #nationalparks #travel #rafting

It’s one of the world’s great rail adventures — 2,740 miles across Canada. But what makes The Canadian so grand, especially in winter, is crossing the Canadian Rockies, beginning at Jasper, Alberta, gateway to Jasper National Park. All aboard, 12.9.2023. #nationalparks #trains #thecanadian #travel
