My first works in the studio for 2026:

Threw and trimmed three bowls and reclaimed 23 pounds of studio clay.

Was definitely channeling @floriangadsby.bsky.social in my attempts at making bowls

Now that summer craziness is over I'm back in the studio working on pottery. These are 800g and all three were 3 pulls (not pictured 3 failed attempts as well). 800g is 2x the amount of clay I was working with previously this spring when I did a similar 3 pull challenge.

Here is all of my first pottery laid out, 3 classes, 18 weeks, 36 hours and 24 pots

Tried my hand at reclaim from the studio bin last night for the first time, checked on it this morning and was able to scrape it into a soft ball for using later, surprised it happened so fast given it was mostly liquid and had to be poured on in layers.

Threw pots 4-6 of the 27 tonight. 4 and 5 came out good and 5 was half an inch taller than 4, still sticking with 3 pulls. I thought they were much more even but photo makes them look very crooked so going to have to check them closer but I did keep these to practice trimming on. 6 was a loss.

I wasn't able to fit all the wedged clay back into the bucket to store it so started early on my first challenge for myself of just throwing all these balls of clay, giving myself three pills and seeing how I do over time.

I was not very successful for this first go but I'll get better

I also spent some time wedging up the first clay I bought for myself (Standard Clay 760). I specifically picked this clay because it contains grog and is a quality I was interested in trying to throw with.

I spent the rest of the weekend setting up my studio space; we all get a set number of shelves, fairly happy with my setup but I'm sure as I use it I'll want to change it up

Tonight was the last night of pottery class but my first night of being a studio member!

Tonight we did under glazing, only some of my stuff from over the weeks was ready but you can see it here. Ultimately fire with red rims matching other dishware.

Pottery class update, didn't keep anything from last week but tonight tried some new skills trying to make water carafe with a cup lid, good practice at the skills just need to get the size, kept one of the practices that collapsed because it ended up looking really neat
