Mariachi Plaza, in Boyle Heights. As early as the 1930s, Mariachis would gather on the corner of the Cummings block and get gigs. A statue of the “mother of rancheras” Lucha Reyes also stands in the plaza. #csudhMSW501

Boyle Hotel was built in 1889, purchased by East L.A. Community Corporation (ELACC) in 2006. Photos from 1890 (L.A. Conservancy) and 2010 (Adrian Scott Fine), compared to a photo I took on my recent visit. This rehabilitated hotel now houses 51 units of affordable housing, #csudhMSW501
