Great new tool from Flickr foundation - the Data Lifeboat, to package up Flickr image collections and get them out of dodge quickly, with metadata and readmes. Speaking to urgency of portability of digital cultural heritage given current times. They need some testers to play and give feedback 👇

Even great code has some bugs!

Be among the first to try out our new Flickr archiving tool Data Lifeboat, and help us find those bugs! Head over to datalifeboat.flickr.org to get started.

Original images from US National Archives and State Library of NSW on Flickr Commons.
A man in a suit makes an exaggerated - possible exasperated or confused -- facial expression with eyebrows arched and and eyes looking down and to the side. Three children running and smiling in bug-like costumes that include antennae. Transcript: Calling all bug hunters! Data Lifeboat Alpha Release is live!

Michigan has some really touching shipwreck museums, including one on Beaver Island. I believe the SS Edmund Fitzgerald is commemorated in the museum on Whitefish Point.

I don’t know why this zoom hack didn’t occur to me until now, but if you have an activity where you want students/colleagues to call on each other/go around the virtual room—e.g. when making introductions—have everyone raise their hand & then lower them when done—no guessing as to who hasn’t gone

I always enjoy reading my grad program's digital newsletter (aimed at alumni + current), and I try to send updates when I have them. Helps me stay connected and gives us something to talk about at conferences and events.

I'm not currently teaching, but when I taught ancient/medieval digital history I included a unit on numismatics largely because the digital resources were so readily available.
