what's the number we can reach you at?

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

*and* those who are Catholic will find a way to dismiss and criticize this group

The thing about the Ambrosian rite is that the differences from the Roman rite are so subtle that if you're not aware of it, you just think the priest made some mistakes, forgot to say a couple prayers.

TIL that in the Ambrosian rite, vestments are red from Pentecost until the third Sunday in October.

The bell tower was added in the 11th century.

It's hard to get a full shot of the facade and bell tower, unless you have the right kind of lens, because the street is so narrow.

This isn’t fearmongering — it’s reality. Hospital-acquired COVID can delay care or cost you your health — even your life.

Infection control measures — masks, ventilation, testing, and staff/patient protections — should be standard care in every healthcare setting.

Some day you’ll be in hospital for surgery or chemotherapy or with another illness & a nurse, or doctor or visitor at the next bed, or the patient opposite you will give you a Covid infection & your treatment will get delayed & your life will be put at unnecessary risk.

this is more than just marching in full regalia to Broadview and praying outside of it

this is very deftly trapping ICE into the position of having to literally - LITERALLY, to them - turn Christ away from the door

any Catholic ICE officer was probably shook, I’m really not exaggerating

For those not fluent in Catholic: refusing the Monstrance is not denying prisoners the Eucharist, it is refusing Christ himself, since Christ is present in the Monstrance.

If Portland’s blow up animals are the right language for Portland, this is the right language for Chicago.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Tens of millions of people have died from Covid.

Every country should have responded with record investments in public health infrastructure.

Instead the US government is putting us all at greater risk of more catastrophes by firing hundreds of top scientists whose job is to prevent outbreaks.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

On his election in 1655, Pope Alexander VII commissioned Gian Lorenzo Bernini to sculpt a skull in marble, which he kept on his desk as a reminder of death's omnipresence. The sculpture was rediscovered in 2021 at Schloss Pillnitz, Dresden

I ran a similar exercise, but with this card "game" - phariseesgame.com. The video lays bare how the Pharisees are cast as the eternal Christian other, the Christian antithesis. But the game’s playful tone highlights how deeply embedded these assumptions still are.
