📍Midwest 📚 Reader 🐶 Dog Mom 🏕️ Hiker

Having fun isn’t hard when you have a library card.
I’ve always thought dark romance isn’t for me, but I read the new Navessa Allen short, Valentine’s Slayer, and I might be wrong.

Is this kind of cute romance with a side of murder what I can expect from her other books??

In the midst of an ARC I was pretty excited about, and I’m super disappointed that the book is claiming the FMC can run a 4-minute mile.

I get that the author is trying to make her seem badass, but maybe say 6-min? (impressive and maybe, like, plausible?)

I’m now feeling so uninspired.

Reading AK Caggiano’s Eclipse of the Crown and right at the beginning there’s a vaccination joke that has me cackling.

The real-world commentary is my favorite part of this fantasy series, and I did not see that coming when I started it.

Just finished up the new Lizzy Dent, Drive Me Crazy, and I have to say: as someone who doesn’t watch F1 at all, this is the best F1 romance I’ve read.

I think it’s the fact that it felt far more realistic — not all just rich people partying and champagne on podiums.

First read of the year: John Green’s Everything is Tuberculosis.

A great reminder that non-fiction doesn’t have to be dry and boring; Green is a stellar storyteller.

Also a great reminder that healthcare should not be a capitalist endeavor.

The other things I’m thinking about are my reading goals for 2026. Maybe:

1. Read more non-fiction (1x/month)
2. Stay up-to-date on ARCs
3. Make a dent in my physical TBR
4. DNF more books (if I don’t like it, I don’t need to finish it)

HBU?

Capping off yesterday’s 2025 wrap-up, the 5 books I’m most looking forward to in 2026:

1. The Book Witch by Meg Shaffer
2. And Now, Back to You by BK Borison
3. Chasing the Fire by Paisley Hope
4. The Shippers by Katherine Center
5. Toe to Toe by Falon Ballard

New year, new TBR.

I read a boatload of books this year, and it’s hard to pick favorites. That said, here are my top 5:

1. Atmosphere by TJR
2. Promise Me Sunshine by Cara Bastone
3. Left of Forever by Tarah DeWitt
4. First Time Caller by BK Borison
5. The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst

Knee deep in the new Sarah Adams, In Your Dreams, and let me just say: THIS MAN YEARNS. 😍

I think I forgot why I love her so much as an author, but 15% in and I am HOOKED.

Kicking off the weekend by drinking a peppermint coffee and starting Backslide by Nora Dahlia.

Her last book, Pick-Up, was a favorite of mine in 2024. Really hoping this will bring the same charm 🤞

Reading a romance and (spoiler) at the end the FMC quits her job to become a full time writer. I’m sitting here asking “why not get married? She needs health insurance!”

… they were Canadian. 🤦‍♀️

When I see someone list “6-star reads,” I interpret it to mean that they aren’t a reliable source for 5-star reads. 😬

Sorry not sorry.

So ready to curl up under a blanket with a good book for the next 9 days. 🎄 📖

Has a book ever been written where a woman had to pick between a rich corporate guy and a Christmas tree 🎄 farmer where the right answer WASN’T the Christmas tree farmer?

(PSA if you want to swoon at a Christmas tree farmer: Big Nick Energy by Kristen Bailey)

Just finished Christmas Fling by Lindsey Kelk and pleasantly surprised to find out fake dating can still feel different.

Not often you get a fake GF whose entire goal is to be deeply unlikeable.

Light, fun, not that deep, holiday vibe ✅

Petition to rewrite all billionaire book boyfriends as either:

1) MacKenzie Scott (actively giving away their billions) OR
2) Multi-millionaires (no more than a 7-digit net worth)

No matter how well written they are, it’s hard to find them hot when they have unethical amounts of money.

Cold take: Libraries should give longer books longer loan periods.

I’m sitting with the Ron Chernow Mark Twain biography in my Libby holds and can’t bring myself to unsuspend when I look at the 1000 page length. 😬

Maybe between Christmas and NYE?

Finishing up Hate Me Like You Mean It by Kyra Parsi and this book has no business being this good.

I finally finished Brimstone yesterday (🙌) and I think it was an improvement in Quicksilver but the ending left me a little confused.

No spoilers, but is this book people need to read twice to “get”? Is it just me?

TY to all of the writers out there giving us holiday specials for their completed book series. 🎄 It’s sort of ridiculous but I’m eating up these nonsense novellas with a spoon.
