Agreed. It isn’t unlike the myth that one must have talent to “make it”. Talent has always been second or third or tenth to targeted marketing, advertising, easily palatable, etc. It’s a sad realization to have when one figures out that the MI is little more than an MLM. Avarice, indeed.

To add to your point, it does nothing to boost the signal to noise ratio (and I don't mean "noise" in a good way). The visual art world is a good example as well. Oversaturation doesn't help anyone creative or an audience out. It's a zero-sum game.

This^ 1000%. Creative self-expression is actually worth discussing, absorbing, and turning ‘round the brain.
