Humpback whales were often seen, sometimes not seen until very late. We suspect we ran into one at slow speed on the Atlantic, made an emergency turn to avoid another curious whale (Pacific Ocean), and narrowly avoided certain tragedy at high speed (Indian Ocean).

Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve experiences rain more than most other places on the planet, and can have a daily rainfall as much as 250 mm. Although rain falls more than 360 days a year, our visit was under a severe clear sky!
