My Masters thesis focused on Floor conflict in #CALeg.
Conflict on the Assembly Floor spiked in the 1990s, due to narrow majorities, implementation of term limits, and polarization of the electorate. Some of us staff got these mugs as a memento.

#OTD in 1995, Doris Allen (R-Cypress) was elected as the first woman #CALeg Speaker.

Teaming up with Democrats, she was elected w/ all Dem votes, plus her own.

She was one of four people to serve as Speaker during a tumultuous 12 month period.

Allen was recalled from office several months later.

And like that…I’m finally born on Bluesky.
