Right now I’m insulin-independent (no shots), tightly controlled, and focused on preserving what my immune system is trying to take away.

It’s not classic type 2, and it’s not the immediate shutdown most people associate with type 1. Progression isn’t instant. Timing and early detection matter more than people realize.

My pancreas is still making insulin, but my immune system is actively attacking the cells that produce it. That’s LADA, a slow-moving form of autoimmune diabetes.

Recently, deeper labs finally explained the “why.” This wasn’t just a blood sugar problem. It was an autoimmune one.

I was off fast-acting insulin within a week and off long-acting insulin about six weeks later. By late November, my CGM was running in the optimal range most days.

Once I locked in, the turnaround was fast. I cleaned up my diet, stayed consistent, invested in my health, and followed the data instead of guessing or hoping for the best.

I was put on insulin and told I had diabetes. End of story. No real explanation, no nuance. Just a diagnosis and a lifetime assumption. I was shocked, confused, and determined to understand what actually happened.
