So a decline in overall pupil numbers disproportionately borne by private schools. Not sure that proves a great deal of anything. Also fails to distinguish between private special schools and mainstream private schools, which is an important distinction in terms of this impact.

Bridget Phillipson was on Radio 4 this morning. She has nothing to say that isn’t boilerplate rehash. What on earth were Labour doing in opposition all these years? Where is the vision?

Not directly but it does start to reduce the degree to which MATs are a law unto themselves, and also chips away at the presumption that every govt-funded school will eventually be part of a MAT by compulsion or otherwise.

The lack of any meaningful local accountability and the inability of a school to decide to leave a MAT that isn’t working for its community are fundamental flaws in the current model.
