Assuming I find one with a swollen battery, how do I safely remove and dispose of it or is it fine to take it out myself as long as I place it in a fireproof box and give it to a recycling place?

They are immediate family so I see them a lot and makes it a bit more complex. It’s always done in a lighthearted manner so typically I just brush it off as more annoying than anything and assume eventually they’d stop but this year was different. I plan to talk to them about it.
