#OTD 1864 Jesse Cox of the Fairview area of Williamson County, TN wrote in his diary "My servants all left today 3 young men and two women and child, and went to the Yankies." One of the young men was likely 19 yo Samuel Cox who enlisted in the 17th US Colored Infantry in Franklin one month later.

#OTD1897 Harvey McLemore paid off the note for 4 lots he had purchased from his former enslaver, William S. McLemore - a local judge & former Confederate officer. Harvey built a home and raised a family on one of the lots. His home stands today as the McLemore House Museum. aahswc.org/tour-tickets

#OTD1864 On today's date (February 1), 1864 Williamson County, TN men Alfred McKay (21), Gideon McLemore (47) & James Moore (36) enlisted into the 111th US Colored Infantry in Maury County, TN. All 3 were taken POW by NB Forrest’s troops at the Sulphur Branch Trestle in September 1864.

#OTD1866 On today’s date, (February 1) 1866, the 15th US Colored Infantry assisted in extinguishing a fire and evacuating patients at the US military Cumberland Hospital in Nashville, TN. The Civil War was over but many USCT regiments remained on duty fulfilling their 3-year terms of service.
