Lawyer, deep state, dessert connoisseur, complete and total failure at gladly suffering fools.
Arguably, Meghan McCain has Kennedy syndrome. Kennedys are like the original nepo babies.

Because they have different legal and statutory authorities and powers. People outside the immigration realm may think it's all the same, but it's not.

This is a bad take and you should feel bad.

"Administration attempts to openly defy court orders" is a pretty bright line. I've been looking at it like a spectrum and that was a pretty big jump towards authoritarianism.

This was a comment on the blurb, which seems to imply that ICE has a huge budget windfall and why can't they hire immigration judges from that. It's because they have nothing to do with the judges. Congress would have had to allocate money to DOJ.

ICE/DHS doesn't administer immigration judges; they're under the purview of DOJ/EOIR.

What the hell? The times I've had to travel for work, I had to stay at a Best Western, a Holiday Inn and on campus at a government training facility.

I just read a Carl Hiaasen novel for the first time this week and I'm pretty confident he read this story and wishes he thought of this first.

Should we just give up and not even try to hold them accountable? The law provides a framework for it and right now courts have slowed down this administration's agenda more than any other institution. Every time the admin needs to stop to find a new loophole, their destruction is curbed.

I mean, sure, they have the existential freedom to do anything. Trump can order AF strikes on LA tomorrow. But not only do norms and laws slow them down, but seeing them constantly violate laws and norms turn public opinion against them, which in and of itself is valuable.

There's no way the increase in deaths isn't connected to firing everyone in DHS Civil Rights and Civil Liberties:

“They Don’t Care About Civil Rights”: Trump’s Shuttering of DHS Oversight Arm Freezes 600 Cases, Imperils Human Rights
The closure of the 150-person office, which protected the civil rights of both immigrants and U.S. citizens, strips Homeland Security of its internal guardrails as the Trump administration turns DHS i...

Literally just ate pizza for lunch with my hands and had a snack of veggies and dip, also with my hands.

Check the charts! What year was it? Were their parents married? Was one parent not a citizen? Did their parents have enough physical presence in the US? All of this is relevant to figuring this out.

Yeah, and the Cuban would probably have the same reactions to grocery stores in Norway or Sweden.

Also a federal worker who would use my two 15 minute breaks to work out when I teleworked. I have a toddler and now a commute and I have absolutely no time at all.

I do this too!! I didn't know it was a thing lol.

No one is reviewing this case. They fired everyone at the DHS Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.

I think if our country provided parents actual, meaningful support, you might see people who were one and done choosing to have two or people who are currently not having children because of instability change their mind, but it would probably cap at 2-3 like you said.
June 20, 2025 at 5:44 PM
I personally have always really wanted 2. Now that I have one and one on the way, there's a slight chance that I *maybe* would have considered 3 if I was younger, but I didn't start younger because I had zero financial stability. Then in 2020 covid happened, so that delayed as well.
June 20, 2025 at 5:41 PM
I feel like I and other parents comment every other day that the only thing that will lead to people having more kids is paid parental leave, universal free or subsidized childcare, affordable housing, good healthcare, and good social safety nets.

"They're wearing dresses and makeup and heels and pearls!" Yeah, cool, so do I but I believe in democracy and women's rights.

The average person has no idea how bad immigration law has always been.

How could they tell if her face was swollen with all that filler?

I just started working on this, but maybe it can help? I'm open to adding other credible sources on US immigration news and cases.

It's a huge, complex system that consists of policies layered upon regulations which are layered on statute. In recent years, ALOT of policies have been enacted by executive orders which is why you see huge swings from president to president.
