Climate, energy, insurance, political change. Holding Big Oil accountable at @climateintegrity.org - I like my cities dense, my wilderness wild and my baseball teams winning. He/him.
New poll in California shows strong majority (66-29) of voters support making large polluters offset rising home insurance costs stemming from climate change. Everyday Americans shouldnʻt be forced to subsidize Big Oil via higher insurance premiums. envirovoters.org/wp-content/u...

Have they really not yet invented a word for the feeling when you’re physically enjoying warm, sunny weather but mentally really disturbed that it’s been pushing 60 degrees for weeks in the middle of January and the mountain snowpack is at microscopic levels?

Great read. It’s pretty shocking how quickly the (US) media has credulously bought into the idea that oil companies didn’t want this after the President literally said out loud that he was consulting with them before the invasion.

Sounds expensive. Who should pay for it? Everyday Californians or the fossil fuel companies that got rich selling the products that turned the state into a tinderbox?

Leaving taxpayers to deal with huge environmental mess is framed here as a unique problem to the Permian. But you’d be hard pressed to find any huge oil and gas buildout that didn’t have it at the core of the business model. US abandoned wells number in the millions. www.reuters.com/article/busi...

These sections in particular read as if you put 10 year old American Petroleum Institute ad copy into ChatGPT and told it to write a NYT column. Just uncritical industry rhetoric.

Gotta hand it to Exxon. Not only have they gotten politicians on both sides of the aisle to uncritically drink the Kool Aid on their latest greenwashing scheme. They even found a way to make taxpayers pay for it.

Take the time to read this first-of-its-kind collection of deceptive oil company advertisements over the past 25 years. US taxpayers are now spending a trillion dollars a year to recover from extreme weather disasters while these companies get a blank check to lie to people. They need to pay up.

Media conglomerate that has overseen the steady erosion of local news in the PNW now wants the ability to hand the whole operation over to AI. Insane.

Washington state’s Skagit River is projected to break its all time high record … by almost 6 feet. Thousands being evacuated from Mt Vernon and surrounding communities.

Climate change is here.

Argue about capacity if youʻd like (wouldnʻt be a problem if PSE had been more proactive in investing in battery storage/wind/solar/EE in recent years), but pretending that replacing coal with methane gas is a climate win is fake news. www.npr.org/2023/07/14/1...
