I Play Card Games
What an incredible piece! That same cousin is now back into Magic again and we play commander together weekly, so of course I'm very excited to make more memories like this one you helped impact!!!

Okay yapping done, I think I'm going to go play Magic now

And finally thank you to people like @shivambhatt.bsky.social @nilejoan.com @tolariancommunitycollege.com @goberthicks.bsky.social and of course Caw-Go @bmkibler.bsky.social for being such shining lights of passion for this game when everything feels so negative (and more! but I have 300 characters)

And thank you to people like @gavinverhey.bsky.social who I only tag because he's the most public facing Wizards employee, but that thanks extends to everyone at the company who I know shares that same passion and love for the game he has. That passion is why this game is more than a game. Thank you

So thank you @mturian.bsky.social for making me a magic player over a decade ago without me even knowing it, as well as everyone else involved in that design and development. I never got to play Jace, but memories of him bring me back to places I can't go and people no longer with me. Thank you.

I love Jace, I love zombies, I love weird artifact combos. Sure, sometimes the game moves in a direction that doesn't particularly speak to me, but the magic of Magic are these memories, the ways in which we interact with the game, the people we play with. And I'm very, very, thankful for it all

I post all this because I have so much passion for Magic and nowhere to let it out so I'm screaming to the void. Over the few years I've been playing magic discourse about the game has gotten so cynical, some of which I understand, but I all I want to do is talk about the parts of this game I love

From being the first card I ever knew existed, to opening a rare special treatment in my first pack, to my favorite artist illustrating a copy, Jace the Mind Sculptor has followed me and feels as if the torch has been passed down to me

Sometimes over my Magic journey it has felt a little embarrassing to get so emotional over pieces of cardboard, but now I understand that THAT is the reason it's magic. While the game night have originally found its identity through casting spells, the magic now comes from moments like these

Then, I was able to get my hands on a copy of the secret lair prize Jace with art by Wizard of Barge, my absolute favorite artist, and get it signed at Magiccon. Now, ending the year out I was able to get a copy of every unique artwork printing of Jace the Mind Sculptor.

Sometime in 2022, over a DECADE later, I bought a pack of New Capenna on a whim which thrust me deep into exploring Magic myself, which is now a large part of me. Following the release of Bloomburrow I opened a single collector booster and opened the raised foil anime Jace the Mind Sculptor

My first thought was, "Wow, MY cousin is so good at cards and is bleeding so many tournaments dry that he got this card banned" (lol). Following that conversation I went back to whatever I did for fun back in elementary school, but the memory of that first introduction to magic never left my mind
