Found on my hike last month in Idyllwild. I was stuck by how one branch is the typical red bark manzanitas are known for and the other branch was obviously scorched by fire.

Two weeks ago, I scampered up the local hills to watch the sunrise hit the San Gabriel Mountains after our latest rain storm. I was grateful to find some lingering clouds sticking to the range.

Fall colors in Southern California can appear aloof, but if you're patient and know where and when to look you can find it. Here is what I found in the San Jacinto Mountains.
Also, today is the last day of Holiday Sale, save 25% on my shop: www.etsy.com/shop/dubland

A sunrise shot from the last morning of our summer backpack in Sierra Nevada. I was actually filtering my water when this scene presenting itself. It was also taken using Adobe's Project Indigo Camera App. My full trip report is now up here: dubland.net/mineral-king...

Back in October Kim and I spent an afternoon in La Jolla to explore the beach and have dinner to celebrate my birthday. As you can see we were treated to an incredible sunset. You can read more about recent work on my most current post: dubland.net/autumn-highl...

Less than a week from Thanksgiving, I thought I would post photo from a past Thanksgiving walk. Where I stumbled across some fallen leaves breaking the oily iridescent surface of a pool in a nearly dry creek bed.

It seems fitting that on a foggy day in SoCal, I am posting on a trip of mine last spring in the fog. A 12-mile training hike, climbing up from the beach to Sandstone Peak at 3,114 feet, the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains. dubland.net/backbone-tra...

Exploring a new beach three weeks ago, I discovered this gorgeous, glistening scene.

I spied this little scene on a trip up to Idyllwild this past spring and used my smartphone to take the snapshot. The shadow on the manzanita and the background bramble reminded me of the shadow work from Nosferatu (the silent film version from the 1920s).

A nice cool summer morning in the Sierras gave glassy water with just a hint of steam rolling off the lake.

Last light of the day on this crop of washed-up seaweed made it really glow. Literally 10 minutes later, that glorious sheen was gone. I was so grateful to be there for that fleeting moment, wandering back from my beach explorations. Easily one of my favorites this year.

One of the highlights of my recent trips to my local beaches this year. I just posted three of my favorites that I have taken this year. This one in particular is also the January image in my new 2026 Photo Calendar, now on sale. Click to read more.

Another photo from 2024 I haven't posted yet. These two jackals passed us early in the day, drenched from what looked like a night of hunting in the rain. We learned on our day in Nairobi National Park that rainy days are great for seeing wildlife. It gets them moving around.

One of my favorite images from 2024 that I hadn't posted on social media. This image may have resonated with me so well because of the many transitions in my current season of life. Hope you enjoy it as well.

This seemed like a fitting image to break my content drought. You can read more about the image, as well as a personal update on my website here: dubland.net/first-light-...
