I really hate the "put up with the grime, it's a city" mindset, but I hate this sort of declinism more. A country that gives up on public transit bc it's scary, and crams more people into cars, is a failure.
Alina Habba: "New York used to be one of the greatest cities in the country. And we will make it that way again. We will make it safe and we will allow tourism, we will allow people to drive to work, not have to take unsafe subways."

am genuinely fascinated by the mindset that liberal democracies (especially wealthy ones!) would just submit to foreign domination when... this has basically never happened?

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."

The deaths of innocent kids Kfir and Ariel Bibas in captivity is a war crime & a heartbreaking tragedy.

Whether they were killed in an Israeli airstrike, as Hamas claims, is frankly irrelevant.

There was never any justification whatsoever for kidnapping kids in the first place.

Mayor Brandon Johnson downplayed the recent departures of some top city officials Tuesday, arguing the exits that came days after he hinted he was rooting out disloyal staff were “personal decisions” the outgoing employees made themselves, not firings.
Mayor Johnson says staff changes were ‘personal decisions’ despite housecleaning promise
Johnson’s defense came after he told the crowd at a South Side church event he wished he “would have cleaned house faster” while suggesting he would start getting rid of people.

There's nothing inherently feminine about Kendrick's jeans (IMO, the longer length suits the style of the outfit). It's true that Hedi Slimane, who designed these Celine jeans, said he originally made them for women. But then he said they're unisex. So now what?

A more serious/sober take on the Hunter Biden pardon:

"Norms" exist because, if both sides follow them, they guarantee some minimum level of decorum or behavior that allows both sides to function on a more sophisticated level, allowing for more opportunity and better outcomes for everyone involved.
