An actual huming bean. She/her. Writer. Editor. Parent. Grappler with chronic fatigue.
For some odd reason my grape hyacinth has come up early. And there are leaf buds all over the blackcurrant bushes and flower buds on the camellia. It's a lot busier out there than I was expecting. I do need some miniature crime tape for the bulb theft scene in the lawn, tho.

Landed on this thread by happenstance and I swear every time you mention a human author you like my ears perk up and rotate forwards to catch every word.

I'm a confidence trickster cat, I guess. Or a rotund bureaucrat with a crush on a guy with nice socks. The last is a little near the knuckle, I'll take the cat.

Ah, those kind of essays. I thought maybe you'd both been reading the same commentary on the phenomenon. Don't look them up if it's traumatic for you.

All safe I hope?

Hm. I wonder, if the pattern isn't more the point than the cause he's hung it on.

Yep

Some of them are quite sophisticated about it and take more effort and skill to weed out. Others are just astoundingly obvious and can only have got published if the peer reviewers or editors were ill-trained/rushed/incompetent at best, corrupt/malicious at worst. 2/2

Re: intellectual work - Papermills turn out masses of slop papers and desperate authors pay for their names to go on them. There are usually other "tells" beside nonsense images altho that's obviously a massive red flag. 1/?

I have done the same, much to my own astonishment.
