When I came out in my OSRS and FF14 discords the reaction was pretty aptly summed up as “holy shit dude fucking finally”

I wouldn't be surprised if many, even most, are still on the J. Reuben Clark train that God literally and directly spoke Jacobean English to Joseph Smith and so it is, in their minds, the very language of divine revelation. Anything that dampens that language threatens the efficacy of the text.

My parents’ church congregation did a book drive/donation a couple years ago and it ended up causing a big stink bc one of the youth ended up with a YA novel that included a lesbian relationship. Her parents were not having it. And it wasn’t even a romance novel!

It's only going to get worse as more and more people are raised with friends and family members who are gay, or trans or queer, and they see that the Church apparently *still* can't come up with anything better than "those people might LOOK happy by any observable standard but it's a Satanic trick!"

I spend a lot of time talking to trans and queer BYU students, and my stomach lurches every time I see someone asking for advice on "how to make it work." Like, I don't begrudge you your religious conviction! But the Church does not care about you AT ALL. It could not possibly be less interested.

In my introductory psych class at a religious university, one classmate responded to a lecture on nature vs nature and a passing mention of “kids of gay couples turn out fine, btw” by emailing all of us a screed about how our textbook was wrong and satanic and corrupting God’s pure truth.
