The beginning of the sunrise scene showed the sun peaking over the mountains behind the city with Thomas and gang running with their backs to it. The next shot was of Thomas's face completely illuminated as if running towards the sun. This displeased me.

I actually kinda like this cover a lot. I'm guessing that it's meant to be Duiker, and the butterflys are a nod to the river scene where... things happen. A lot of hidden pain in such a soft piece.
P.S. not at all how I imagine Duiker though hehe

I think its meant to be Felisin? And the flying things ar Rhizan, little flying lizards that are kinda described like pests in Seven Cities.

I'm also currently on House of Chains. I love that the series is less of a story about some characters and more "a history of this world at this time". That's not to say the characters are unimportant or incidental, but they certainly are not the central focus of the point Erikson is trying to make.
