This has been the most transparent presidency. Ted Lieu: I believe you just lied under oath. There is ample evidence in the Epstein file. Lieu referenced a witness who claimed to have overheard Trump discussing Epstein and alleged abuse, noting that no one at the Department of Justice had interviewed that witness. The broader issue is unavoidable: Ghislaine Maxwell is serving time, but the larger network of accountability remains untouched. Maxwell deserves prison. But that cannot be the end of the story.

At its core, reproductive justice is about dignity and self-determination.

Much is unclear, but two things are certain. First, DOJ has the tools to help provide at least some answers for the survivors, and it should use them. That is its job. Second, if this DOJ leadership is not willing to act on the survivors’ behalf and in the public interest, as they should, then Congress must seize the reins and demand answers from Bondi and hold public hearings to answer outstanding questions. The survivors have kept Epstein and his circle from walking away from all of this with impunity. Now it’s Congress’s turn to use the tools that it has to make sure Epstein’s decades-long course of criminal conduct and victimization of girls and women is exposed and laid bare, and that the people involved, no matter who and how powerful they are, are held accountable in the court of public opinion, even if the Justice Department refuses to investigate.

At a MINIMUM, Trump knew about Epstein and did nothing until after the fact. At BEST:

Over the past 24 hours, the White House has parroted the idea that Donald Trump was a whistleblower of sorts, as new documents showed that Trump called the Palm Beach County Police Chief in the mid-2000s and reported Epstein and Maxwell. The newly released FBI document says Donald Trump called Palm Beach’s police chief in 2006 to thank him for investigating Jeffrey Epstein, urged authorities to focus on Ghislaine Maxwell (whom he called “evil”), and claimed he had distanced himself from Epstein and expelled him from Mar-a-Lago, while detailing how a broader early-2000s investigation into Epstein ultimately stalled at the state level. The only problem for the White House is that this phone call happened after the arrest of Epstein, not before. And so, now the White House is on record embracing the position that the President knew about Epstein and Maxwell’s conduct, yet only called authorities after Epstein was arrested:

Almost as if this is less about bringing a meritorious criminal prosecution against specific individuals and more about casting suspicion over Fulton County’s voting system and ability to conduct a fair election. It feels less like a step towards a successful criminal prosecution and more like targeted intimidation and voter suppression. (Failed prosecutions are nothing new in this administration, from the dismissed case against former FBI Director Jim Comey to news tonight that a grand jury in the District of Columbia rejected an indictment of six members of Congress who posted a video reminding people serving in the military and the intelligence community that they should refuse illegal orders.)

"After more than five years, dozens of court cases, and over a year in total control of the federal government, this is all they've got?" he said. "If taken at its word, this entire affidavit at most alleges human error after a late night during a global pandemic, all of which had no impact on the outcome of the race." The affidavit also does not mention any evidence or suspicion of foreign election interference, raising more questions about the presence of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard at the site of the raid.

Economic indicators like job openings and layoff announcements are all flashing red. Despite inheriting a recovering economy from former President Joe Biden, Trump has put in place policies like tariffs that are proving to be a drag on growth. In his first term, Trump had a net job loss, and his second term policies are on a path to similar levels of failure. Instead of reversing course, Trump has stuck to his policies and is currently pushing to install Kevin Warsh at the Federal Reserve. Warsh is a Trump-approved yesman who made a series of incorrect calls about the 2008 financial crisis.
