Ted Cruz's mom did him dirty by making him look like Ted Cruz.

US coalition politics feels like being asked to be a front line foot soldier in war where we've been marched into enemy territory during winter and told that the reason we got caught in the most obvious trap was because we brought down morale by pointing out it was a trap.
cambrianera.radical.town
"Why won't you put aside your ideals for the sake of coalition so we can stop Trump?"

Because I don't trust that you can stop him if I do. Because you're losers with no moral center. Show me you can win at the very least or there's no point in even discussing it.
cambrianera.radical.town
Oh sure, but there isn't really centuries of scientific literature in general, much less on this topic specifically!
cambrianera.radical.town
Yup. The SEGM debacle probably made them nervous about trying to push it as a line.

Where we start seeing better data with more participants, larger surveys, etc. All of which paint a clear picture that support trans identity being one of those things that 'just is'. Not a pathology per se, it's just part of the broad human experience.
cambrianera.radical.town
When you see is decades of trans people saying the same things over and over and over and over again and researchers going, "Well maybe..." as they try different 'cures' or 'treatments' and then going, "Oh well, nevertheless." And it just keeps GOING until around the 2010s.
cambrianera.radical.town
The trans debate is crazy when you've read any of the papers. Like, it's one thing to know because it's my own lived experience but it's always possible you're an outlier, right? So I've tried to keep up with things this whole time and it's just... nah, man, we're right? We know ourselves.
cambrianera.radical.town
It's fucking wild, right?
cambrianera.radical.town
Like, yeah, turns out that if you abuse an 8 year old when they play with dolls they say they don't like feminine things anymore when asked! Again, this is the sort of shit that Singal saw and got OUTRAGED that it wasn't being done anymore lmao. Christ.
cambrianera.radical.town
It's wild because you read the original article and it's GLOWING about how he treated this troubled child and then there's the follow-ups where the parents are like, "Well... it wasn't REALLY conversion therapy" because it seemed... really abusive.
cambrianera.radical.town
Yeah, there was the one particularly famous case that was lauded all over about how he successfully cured this one kid by essentially having their parents lock away all of their toys and berate them whenever they wanted to do anything feminine!
fujoshi.bsky.social
Per the 2008 Atlantic article where he is interviewed, he's pretty explicit that he's doing it and just delineates pre-pubescent kids (who he can successful stop being trans with an insane expansive family social surveillance system) and post-pubescent kids, who are too late to be helped
cambrianera.radical.town
And when it comes to children, children in general rarely identify in this kind of way for the YEARS that it takes to go through the process. And that's the entire reason THE STUDY THAT IS BEING CITED HERE RECOMMENDS PUBERTY BLOCKERS.
cambrianera.radical.town
In general it's mostly what we'd expect: There's some variability in the squishy middle, but when it comes to transsexuals who seek medical intervention, those people are, by and large, mostly people who are very aware of their identity, even at a young age.
cambrianera.radical.town
They're citing numbers from DECADES ago and we're still waiting for this wave of detransitioners! There simply is no evidence that there are large numbers of kids who think they're trans, go into treatment but turn out not to be.
cambrianera.radical.town
Yeah. Because they're not even close to citing the same thing! The 80-95% comes from a paper that is citing OTHER, OLDER papers. None of them looked specifically for gender stabilty, though the most recent one did and shocker, it turns out to be stable!
cambrianera.radical.town
We've been promised loads and loads of detransitioners with regret and that simply does not seem to be the case. Detransition and regret are real, but rare.
cambrianera.radical.town
Even the recent study that Singal misrepresented in the Economist did not show an 80-95% desistance rate. At MOST it showed ~20% variability between binary to non-binary or vice-versa with only one participant no longer identifying as trans.
cambrianera.radical.town
Like, oh, the Cass Report that shows that almost all of the kids who entered the Tavistock system left without changing their identity. Most aged out while waiting. There's also data from the US Military healthcare service. Same thing. Low detransition/regret rates, sub 10%.
cambrianera.radical.town
Now, I have to say, the 80-95% desistance rate is pretty eyebrow-raising, if true. But it could also mean that maybe Zucker was a fucking conversion therapist. How can we tell? Well, let's look at more recent data.
cambrianera.radical.town
They like to cite old research for this. How old? Some of this is coming from 1995, from Zucker's clinic which was shut down for practicing conversion therapy. You might remember it as the thing that got Jesse Singal into this whole misinformation for hire business.
cambrianera.radical.town
Also that study isn't even looking at data, it's referencing OTHER data from as far back as 1995 at Zucker's clinic which was shut down because of the whole conversion therapy thing.
cambrianera.radical.town
Told you. It's that one Dutch study from almost 20 years ago that has been contradicted by decades of evidence since. But also that same study SUPPORTS intervention.
cambrianera.radical.town
Sorry for the TERF shit, but it's important to identify how poorly this talking point has worked out for them. You might think they're saying "gender-confused" because they're transphobic. And they are, but it's also critical for this argument to have any legs at all.
FALSE

The majority of gender-confused children grow out of that feeling by the time they are fully grown adults, based on a long-term study. That is why it is imperative not to act hastily, as transgender activists are demanding.
