Also police brutality towards protesters happens everytime, many in violation of Geneva Convention including intelligence in plain clothes carrying a gun and medics being blocked and harrased. International coverage urgently needed.

International Community Alerted to Repressive Actions Against Indonesian Protesters and Intimidation of Journalists.

Sunday, 23 March 2025 - Indonesia - We urgently call upon the global community to observe and respond to alarming events in Indonesia.

On March 20, 2025, the Indonesian Parliment passed amendments to the military law, allowing active-duty officers to hold civilian positions without resigning. This has raised concerns over potential democratic backsliding.

Mass protests have erupted nationwide, including in Malang. Today (23/3), security forces used excessive force against demonstrators, including medical personnel and women, violating human rights, and democratic principles.

Press freedom is also under threat. The offices of Tempo magazine, known for its critical reporting, were targeted with intimidation. On March 22, they received a severed pig's head, followed by a decapacitated rat on March 23, raising serious concerns about press safety.

We call on international community to:
- Condemn the excessive force used against peaceful protesters.
- Defend press freedom and protect journalists from intimidation
- Urge the Indonesian government to uphold democracy and human rights.

Your solidarity is crucial. We will continue documenting and sharing evidence of these violations. Thank you for your attention. May peace and justice prevail in all nations.

What is happeningin Indonesia ?
27 years after the end of Soeharto's dictatorship in 1998, today Indonesia is officially slipping back into military dictatorship.
Just a few hours ago, the Parliament has passed the Military Law despite the ongoing mass protests, bringing military-backed dictatorship in Indonesia to reality.
This shift threatens Indonesia's hard-won democratic norms. The consequences include:
Erosion of civil liberties & political freedoms;
Weakened civilian oversight of securityforces;
Increased risk of human rights violations;
Compromised judicial independence;
Deterioration of press freedom;
Regression to authoritarian governance patterns.

I believe that many of my international friends whom I connect here on instagram would care enough to take a look, spread awareness, or even help taking actions on our current growing concerns.

Especially my fellow Southeast Asians or international peers whom I met at diplomatic events/simulations, I am sure that we know how Indonesia's democratic journey has been an inspiration across the region. However, its continued success also needs your help. We need you to help us voicing this resistance. If you're working on
