When we started this study, we actually worked pretty hard to reproduce IIA violations (decoy effects) but we were unable to. In the Discussion we speculate of why that might be.

New ms on trinary choices! Somewhat surprisingly, our monkeys’ choices satisfied IIA (independence of irrelevant alternatives). In OFC, decision variables were represented in the same way under trinary and under binary choices. This property implies IIA.

Neuronal Activity in Orbitofrontal Cortex during Trinary Choices under Risk
Economic choice entails computing and comparing the subjective values of different goods. Orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) is thought to contribute to both operations. However, previous work focused almost ...

Kuddos to Alessandro Livi and Manning Zhang for many years of hard work!

Most interestingly, temporal dynamics indicated a combination of feedforward and feedback between layers, and pointed to L5 as the locus where winner-take-all value comparison takes place
Additional cool finding: in each layer, functional cell groups were organized in clusters of ~100 um diameter

We 2P imaged layer 2/3 and layer 5 of mice choosing between different juices. Decision variables were differentially represented across layers: juice-specific offer values and their spatial configs were predominant in L2/3; spatial offer values, chosen side, and chosen value were predominant in L5.

New ms! We’ve long hypothesized that different groups of neurons in OFC are the building blocks of a decision circuit. We now show that this circuit has a laminar architecture.
