I also remember seeing people saying that "dumb" LLMs become pretty useful with web access. So, maybe there’s some potential left still for cheap local compute.

Even then, I’d it’s not really necessary to acquire new hardware for getting started on local LLMs.
Installing LM Studio on a PC and running a "small" model is still useful for that pre-Wikipedia phase of research when we’re trying to find "what’s the name of that thing that’s does X, Y and Z". 🤔

That’s why we always feedback the speaker’s mic in monitors / headphones / IEMs.
