I don’t plan on using this much for now | She/her | TIRF | Mets fan and Jewish history enjoyer (among other things)
Pretty sure Peralta approached Brewers about extending so he probably has a takedown number?

Gross has experience drafting in later rounds from his time with the Astros and I trust our dev staff. Mets are also likely to trade a starter if they add one and Peterson could net prospects worth the draft picks given up.

Stearns and Chen have generally seen it as worth it to overpay in AAV to lower term. That’s what I’ve been trying to say.
January 16, 2026 at 6:45 PM
*Bo lol sorry autocorrect
January 16, 2026 at 6:43 PM
No is overpaid in AAV not term which was the problem with Nimmo and Correa before him
January 16, 2026 at 6:43 PM
I agree they had massive political differences and it did actually cause tension between him and Lindor, and probably the other Latino players as well. I just don’t think that’s the main reason he was traded though it probably didn’t help.
January 16, 2026 at 4:00 PM
Stearns straight up didn’t like the long-term core players (understandably), not as people but as players. He probably doesn’t even care for Lindor’s contract either. The reality is that Nimmo and McNeil were on contracts he didn’t sign and he wanted to trade them early on too.
January 16, 2026 at 3:58 PM
Then they would have traded Nimmo when he didn’t get vaccinated while there was a cancer survivor in the clubhouse.

He has plantar fasciitis and lingering neck issues. He has declining pitch recognition and athletic metrics. He would have to start DHing to give playing time to prospects.
January 16, 2026 at 3:53 PM
Nimmo had to be traded for another terrible contract that fits the roster slightly better. I was an opponent of the Nimmo contract from the moment it was signed and said Eppler should have let him walk.

It would have been different because they likely would have had to dump a bad contract.
January 16, 2026 at 3:25 PM
A. Twelve years would become worse than the Nimmo contract the moment he got plantar fasciitis

B. There was demand for him. On a contract much shorter than twelve years with a significant portion of money eaten by the Twins.

C. Money can’t buy roster spots
January 16, 2026 at 3:18 PM
Because it would be one of the most crippling contracts in the sport?
January 16, 2026 at 3:09 PM
It’s very likely if not certain that Juan wouldn’t be a Met if that deal went through
January 16, 2026 at 3:06 PM
Soto’s opt out can be voided with a higher AAV. It is essentially not a real opt-out.
January 16, 2026 at 10:52 AM
Yes
January 13, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Phillies rotation no longer has Wheeler (love him but I think he’s screwed even if he comes back, TOS sucks) and they haven’t re-signed Ranger yet. They also have no depth in their farm whatsoever and their pipeline isn’t that good.
January 5, 2026 at 10:42 AM
Lol. His only bad *process* moves were some bad trades with the Rays.

I’m smart enough to know that Stearns is a better GM than any we’ve had in this century and will likely be better than whatever comes after. Red Sox fans drove Chaim out of town meanwhile he acquired most of their now good team.
January 5, 2026 at 3:41 AM
Peripherals for relievers matter more than results which are skewed by small sample sizes. And Williams was good in the last few months regardless.

The depth pieces Stearns brought in pitched to a 4.10 ERA. Minter would have been a nice arm if he didn’t get injured.
January 5, 2026 at 3:37 AM
No other teams even offered four, Orioles jumped the market to where Red Sox and Mets wouldn’t go (for good reason)
January 5, 2026 at 1:14 AM
3. The actual issue with the Mets pen was being too top heavy, which isn’t solved by throwing more money at the incumbent closer who has never strung back to back great years together (even though they wanted to and he chased a ring instead). Weaver+Williams were added.
January 5, 2026 at 1:13 AM
1. Alonso is the worst defensive 1B and the idea that a career middle infielder can’t play it better than him is so silly. It’s not a difficult position. Soto could play it if he felt like it.

2. Only one (arguably two) major SPs FAs have signed. Trades exist.
January 5, 2026 at 1:11 AM
Judge is basically the difference maker
January 5, 2026 at 12:26 AM
Thoughts on Mets prospect Will Watson?
January 4, 2026 at 11:23 PM
They’re low estimates of their WAR partly because they’re low estimates of their IP and PAs. Benge is likely up on OD or within a month of it.

Sproat and Tong likely get more play than they’re projected to as well. Two of Watson, Wenninger, Santucci, Gordon and Thornton will contribute.
January 4, 2026 at 9:42 PM
This is what the projections are for the Mets right now without adding anything.

Mets fans really overestimate the impact of 3 WAR 1Bs, aging and injury-prone LF/DHs, and relievers and underestimate how much talent the team has internally. Not every problem is solved by throwing a bag at everyone.
January 4, 2026 at 9:34 PM
This is with projection systems consistently underestimating rookies (same reason Red Sox project worse than they probably are)
