Human rights are eroded not only in a single moment but through a series of political choices and actions. Defending them requires constant ongoing vigilance, public scrutiny, independent courts, a free press, and an active civil society willing to speak truth to power.

These are not abstract concerns; they are real threats to equality, freedom, and justice.

Across Canada, we are witnessing troubling trends: laws that undermine human rights and civil liberties, governments sidestepping constitutional limits, elected officials undermining the rule of law and independence of the judiciary, and policies that target marginalized communities.
