I remember it felt pretty smart at launch but I think it just doesn't know what to do with most of the cards added after the fact. I tried letting it autobattle with my Tsareena/Celebi deck once and it just instantly used Will on Turn 1.

Plus if Melemele Island really is just all that you see in-game and nothing more, then your mother must be a billionare to have basically the only seafront house on the island that isn't literally a research hut on the beach.

The whole city you *see* is walkable but like i'm saying with Lumiose, my point is I assume most locations in-game are only a small portion of the true scale. The cars in Hau'oli imply there's probably other towns or cities you never see because there's no reason to go there on your journey.

I think LZA is a good example of this: Lumiose City in XY was an abridged version of the city with all the essentials needed for that specific game experience (and also to fit the limitations of the 3DS), and what we're now seeing in LZA is much closer to what the actual city is supposed to be like.

Anywhere in the Pokemon world that would require driving to get around is evidently a distance too long and uninteresting to put in a game where you travel by foot. There's no routes in Pokemon Colosseum because it's all desert badlands, so you just ride your bike between towns without stopping.

Overall I think it's just a consequence of each region in-game obviously being scaled down & smaller than it logically would be IRL. You have to assume what you see is just a small part of the larger town/city/route so you don't have to spend 3 irl days walking from Circhester to Spikemuth.

There are no roads leading in or out of Littleroot town, what they don't show you is that the Machoke/Vigoroth movers were actually just carrying the truck the whole way there while you're inside it.

I'm not saying every game should throw a bunch of random cameos for no reason but it's noticable when they went from Grimsley/Colress/Anabel appearing in Alola, Jasmine in Sinnoh, Cynthia in Unova, Looker in Kalos/Hoenn and Mina in Kanto to just an absence of anyone at all.

It really is weird that Ingo is literally the only returning character we've seen since LGPE, barring ancestors/relatives referencing other characters. They even bait you with the idea of battling other champions in Isle of Armour and then pull it back.
