A key victory for cannabis advocates: CA Senate Appropriations Committee approved the excise tax rollback bill AB 564 (Haney). The bill would reset the excise tax rate at 15% this October, repealing the recent increase to 19%. Cal NORML is a proud AB 564 co-sponsor. actionnetwork.org/letters/halt...

According to @canorml.bsky.social , which sponsors A.B. 564, the state levies a 1-cent tax on a glass of wine, 2 cents on a can of beer, 8 cents on a shot of liquor, and roughly 14 cents on a single cigarette, while one cannabis pre-roll is taxed at $1.24 under the current 15% excise tax.

I discovered a pretty crazy stat in reporting this story. Last week a Southern California mega farm reported harvesting 232,000 pounds of cannabis in the previous quarter. That's more pot than all 1,000+ farms in Humboldt County harvested during the same time period, combined.

In 2015, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom went on a tour of Northern California, promising legacy pot farmers he'd protect them from big corporate interests. Ten years later, cannabis is legal, Newsom got a promotion to governor, and small cannabis farms have been decimated.

There are concerns that Trump’s marijuana reform will prioritize business interests over the concerns of everyday Americans—like health, preventing corporate control of legal markets & ending federal criminalization.
