Then we will need to accept Farage as PM and the continued decline of the country. Personally I plan to change the narrative or go down trying. I will not stand by passive and let the decline continue until it is irreparable. I appreciate some are not ready yet But when you have had enough join us.

And what better way to neutralise the major political forces against working closer with our neighbours than inflicting a humiliating defeat on them at the ballot box while Brexit is so unpopular? The unwillingness of the political elite to trust the electorate is the problem here.

Labour needs to neutralise Reform Use the majority view that Brexit was a mistake to put them on the wrong side of democracy. Hold a referendum before the next election, reform are toast, do not take this moment to overturn 2016 I suspect Farage is the next PM. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/74...
Petition: Commit to a referendum in May 2028 asking the next government to rejoin the EU
Polls show that many people of the UK believe leaving the EU was a mistake. It is time politicians stopped ignoring the views of the people. The government needs to consult the people about what to do...

No, the reason we are finding SPS and Erasmus difficult is because of the democratic deficit. We need to strike while the iron if Brexit failure is so obvious and Brexit is so unpopular to overturn the 2016 vote. That will give future governments the mandate to develop closer links.

By the way I don’t think people want full on fascism, they just want better lives. We need to bang on (and on) about how Brexit has damaged the economy and made them poorer. They will not deliberately vote to be poorer. Last time they believed the lies but they have been exposed.

Sorry but that is the attitude which has empowered him. ‘We must protect the people from themselves’ because we know best. We need to trust the polls, make the argument and this time empower the young to vote him down. Because if we continue to follow this road he will be PM.
December 9, 2025 at 7:33 PM
Actually I think exactly the opposite. The only way to neuter Farage is to remove his ‘2016 mandate’. Every inevitable EU reset is met with a wall of ‘sell out’ which makes him stronger. We have to take the risk lance the boil and put him on the wrong side of democracy. Otherwise he’s the next PM.

Which is why the government should hold a referendum before the next general election. We are fed up with hearing what Farage wants. Brexit has failed, and let the people have their say on what we want government to do. www.parallelparliament.co.uk/petitions/74...

True, but it certainly will not happen until politicians start listening to the fact that it is what the people actually want. Starmer needs to start listening to the public.

The interesting thing is that the right wing parties seem to have voted to damage the UK economy (again).
December 9, 2025 at 5:46 PM
I think you have that the wrong way round. Take away his 2016 vote and you ‘rid yourself of Farage’. He becomes the wrong side of democracy. At the moment he is portraying himself as the voice of the common people because of Brexit. People vote Brexit as a mistake, his position is destroyed.
December 9, 2025 at 9:59 AM
So we just ignore them and hope they go away? That’s worked well so far. Personal view is it’s time to ditch the Chamberlain approach and think Churchill. The decency majority need to stand up and deprive them of the oxygen 2016 gives them. That only happens at the ballot box. Sorry.
December 9, 2025 at 9:55 AM
I will also make this prediction. Have a referendum and overturn the 2016 mandate now while people know Brexit is a failure and reform will be obliterated in 2029. Fail to have a new vote and try and ‘muddle through’ reform may well win in 2029 and Farage will be PM. Take your pick.
December 9, 2025 at 9:26 AM
I misconstrue nothing. Labour want to repeat the mistakes of the past. Move closer hope no one notices. Every step closer while 2016 is the last mandate is oxygen for Farage. Lance the boil, face him down. Take away his 2016 vote and he is toast.
December 9, 2025 at 9:23 AM
So we continue to bury our heads in the sand and ignore the catastrophe that is Brexit? This problem will continue to drag the UK down until it is tackled head on. Every move will be met by a wall of 2016 comments until that vote is superseded. All you are doing is supporting Farage.
December 9, 2025 at 8:35 AM
Sorry but that’s rubbish. It is time politicians stopped pussy footing around the dwindling number of brexiteers and asked the majority what we think. That is also your only way to neutralise Farage. You need to be on the front foot, not trying appeasement. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/74...

Agreed it’s time to stop pussyfooting around the dwindling number of brexiteers and listen to the majority. Demand a new vote. This also has the benefit that it will show Reform as a fringe party who hate democracy. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/74...
