You can now unroll any thread with ThreadSky just by mentioning it now, just like this. Hey @tbsky.app .

They're called "shotgun" microphones.

What kind of stuff are you looking to speed up?

No worries then :D The way you were talking about it just sounded so much like the "reasonable concerns" planning deregulation types here in Europe lol.

Fair enough. That just strikes me as a lack of state capacity rather than an excessive planning process I guess. There's just a much longer tail of poor electrical safety in the US, so checks that would get "yeah duh" to an Australian planning office are more reasonable there. E.g. Aluminium wiring.

I get it if the process sucks, maybe the planning office should be better funded or a licensed engineer could sign off on it, but most of this is information you should just have in a filing cabinet anyway.

I'm genuinely asking, what "vague requested changes" would you get here? Every single piece of information requested has realistic practical safety concerns if it's wrong. "Will your wires melt under max load" and "will it get ripped off the roof during strong winds" aren't undotted i's.

Australian solar is 75% cheaper because you don't have to fill out a couple hours of paperwork?

I think it comes from a place of unacknowledged privilege. A lot of trans women online were, before they came out, navigating the world as middle class cishet white dudes. They'd never really seen oppression until overnight they were on the extreme end of it. It's worthy of compassion so they learn.

The sentence "Elon Musk is worth $300 billion dollars" is just a euphemism for "Elon Musk gets to decide what 176,000 americans will spend their lives working on".

The funny thing is AMD will probably get there next year anyway due to their innovative business strategy of "what if we sold a good product that people want to buy?"

"Sorry I can't treat that as a real dollar until you show me its print authorisation"

"Why would you give them all that stuff just for some lousy stock certificates?"

"Treasury bills are mental illness"

I mean I was just thinking about asset fungibility and how the vast majority of trade is done trading assets-worth-x-dollars rather than actual dollars. There's no magical "dollar-ness" imbued to an actual dollar beyond the willingness of other people to accept it as a dollar.

At the end of the day society works fine as long as most people, most of the time, are engaging with each other in good faith. Rules are just guardrails against ill intent.

I'm getting absolutely one shotted thinking about the economic side of that argument because that is _exactly_ how money works in our modern economy, and it's a problem for exactly the opposite reason he implies.
