Indian Blanket, an annual flower. Brought it in after the first several frost. Sitting in window self, doing well and flowering. One hardy plant. Interested in seeing if it can be replanted in spring. #gardening #flowers 🌱🥀

Putting the tulips to bed before fall snows. Bulbs are placed to trays with compost, placed in the bed, covered with 6” of dirt then mulch. Done just before the cold weather. First freeze is late this year.🌱 #gardening

Summer shallots are now dried for soups, etc. They taste like fried onions. Planting about 50 cloves now the soil cooled for next summer harvest.

Temps dropped into the 40’s. Bees slowed down and stopped moving on flowers until it warmed up.Could of petted them, but thought better. 🌱 #vegetablegardening

Apple time visited 4 orchards as our apples did not produce. Making apple crisp, when done needed a lot more apples per pie. Spouse made first taste. so one more visit for more apples to freeze. 🌱 #vegetablegardening

Ready to plant three types of garlic plus shallot, elephant garlic. just waiting for cold weather. soil is still at 70 degrees. May need to with to Nov. here in Wisconsin . soil needs to be 50 degrees or less. 🌱 #vegetablegardening

to many apples? try apple butter. Apples in a slow cooker for 10 hrs with sugar, brown sugar but leave out the cloves. then a food mill to remove any skins. great on toast, waffles etc 🌱 #gardening

Trying our hand at fall planting kohlrabi. Planted in our bucket with a mix of compost and manure. If it freezes we move it indoors as this is 60 day maturity. Nothing lost for trying 🌱 #vegetablegardening

Started the master gardening course. looks like a lot of fun but it’s like going back to college 50 years ago. Already changing our raised beds and tilling up yard for fall planting garlic.

Fertilizer! Getting gardens ready for fall, I suggest getting your soil tested. ours is very high in calcium and phosphate. Why? suspect the new soil came off a heavily fertile farm field

If getting new soil delivered, ask where it is coming from and have it tested.

Be safe test your soil!
