From the west coast, living on the east coast. Probably reminiscing about a past Hawai'i trip at any given moment.
I realize I'm beating the same drum after every race but I'm pretty sick of George Russell the cop...

Kane is awful. Oh and it seems like he's not very good at hockey either. What a great acquisition.

So is what the Canadians did during the war of 1812 now only the second worst thing done to the White House?

Some timeline serendipity today.

Today's EA news is exactly what the already struggling game industry doesn't need. Beyond the common but farcical "debt financing" structure of the deal, it's going to be terrible for the employees, with layoffs and closures no doubt following. Good luck to everyone working there, you may need it!

My bird-related hot take is that the Steller's Jay should be the Blue Jay and the Blue Jay should be called something else because it's less blue than the Steller's.

I guess Piastri isn't as immune to pressure as it seemed. And Russell is definitely the kid that would snitch once the teacher is back.

How is public transit near where I live? Well when I ask Google for directions, it tells me the best option is "walk".

Graham Greene made everything he was in better. My favourite performance of his was probably Walter Crow Horse in Thunderheart, a movie I'm fond of but most people seem to be indifferent to, if they know it exists at all. With his passing we gave now lost all the leads of that film.

Might be risky saying this the same week as new albums from both The Beaches and The Beths come out, but for me, Moisturizer by Wet Leg is the album of the year.
It's superior in every way to their debut, unless you miss the more overt humour.

(2nd The Last Dinner Party album might contend too)

One of the problems with this "common sense" talk about traffic congestion is that congestion is treated like something that happens *to* cars, when in fact it *is* the cars. By making it something external to the cars invites ineffective strategies, when the only thing that works is fewer cars.

There are people who would probably call me woke because I am using a combination of solar and wind power to dry my laundry.

For the 10 years I used it pretty much every day, and then even during the pandemic, I didn't really think much about it. But now that I'm in Halifax - I miss the Skytrain. Signed, someone who apparently will now sit through a video of the commute I used to do.

Never seen "transmission interruption" as a cause for a power outage before. Don't know is that means it will be a long one - but sure sounds like it could be a long one...

I won't be too sad to see Christian Horner go - but it does make me wonder, is there any team principals that I actually like? I feel like the more I see of them the less I like them. Maybe only James Vowles is the exception...

I really like the F1TV app and coverage but there are a couple of quirks that are annoying but not deal breakers. The app on my tv requires signing in way too often, pretty much every race. (Cont'd 1/2)

The drive of Hulkenburg's career and a well deserved podium. Piastri will feel he was robbed but that was definitely a penalty - not sure why the F1TV commentators were making every excuse in the book for him. And Norris achieves his dream but it was Piastri's race to win. More wet races please!

Maybe it goes back to the days when Murray Walker would breathlessly update us about what Mansell was doing even if he was in 8th place, but when the announcers went into hysterics about the possibility of a Hamilton pole I found myself rooting against him in the final sector...

Ok, The Bear. I'm late to it but now having watched all 4 seasons I can see what the acclaim is about. Strong cast and writing, and impeccable music choices (which often felt weirdly targeted at me). But (cont'd)...

One stat that will always make me chuckle is that Corey Perry has been on 5 of the last 6 Stanley Cup Finals and has lost every one. Maybe he can find a goalie to go fall on to feel better.

I was just about to compose a post saying that this race was not up to the usual Montréal surprise but the McLarens decided to prove me wrong. Have to give Russell credit, he seems to have stepped up a notch this year. And a well deserved podium for Antonelli.
June 15, 2025 at 7:42 PM
Norris such a McLaren fan he couldn't resist recreating the Hamilton / Button collision. Also really who didn't see this coming at some point this season?
June 15, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Even if you're not a WEC or Ferrari fan, you have to be happy for Robert Kubica today. Reinforces how good he is, and should definitely have had more than just the single F1 win. I guess there's something about him and races in mid June!

I'm not usually one to preorder books but when I saw how nice this edition of @guygavrielkay.bsky.social 's latest novel looks, I couldn't resist. Can't wait to dig into it!

Red Bull's strategy call probably cost Max 3rd place but Max's temper cost him 5th-9th places.
