I think this is why it seems jarring - decoupling the act of vampirism from sex makes the quality of being a vampire less interesting to me and much more about an identity that we have already explored in other ways. I can understand why people find it appealing but it feels not necessary

As he is telling the story he’s telling the guy he said that back then he was saying he was gay? i also thought that rice said vampire parts don’t work which is why biting someone is more like the act

Sure but constantly pointing out you are gay is not only probably anachronistic but also even now not particularly what any of us do naturally so it feels incredibly jarring to witness sophisticated vampires do that, it just feels like bad writing to me

also: if you make their story one where Louis is only about sexual attraction to and not in captivity to Lestat I feel like this is less sinister and makes lestat and Louis less interesting and have less depth but maybe I’m also just thinking too hard about the book structure

i have been avoiding it because of the previous film experience but everyone tells me they absolutely nail the themes so maybe I can persuade myself to dip in

I think that the ‘gayness’ was rumored to be a barrier to the franchise although it’s unclear how true that is

I guess what I am sad about is the loss of talking with a larger fandom about something im incredibly invested in, however I notice that there are curmudgeons online who only want to discuss the books already and I am free to stfu

I do tend to go in circles where we lament this lost history as cruise clearly had a taste for it

I’m happy we are at place in history where we have more language to describe our queer experience but I’m pretty sure the readership understood that all vampires are gay until otherwise stated or maybe we have a bigger problem than i thought idk

I enjoyed Cruise’s Lestat and I do think it’s the standard for a Rice adaptation even if Banderas was supposed to be a 19 year old ginger man from renaissance italy

I would probably enjoy an expanded Claudia role. Idk I just wish I got more time from these two individuals before they are forced to fuck each other for the viewership I guess

It does make me feel like a complete killjoy because it’s nice that everyone loves these two idiot vampires I grew up on but im not sure two vampires screaming ‘I’m gay’ in an admittedly millennial way out loud for a whole season is really what I get from the vampire chronicles as a series

I’ve really been trying to get with interview with the vampire but every time I try to get into it it seems like they are not interested in louis in the first episode and it makes me really sad. rice wrote it because she was suicidally depressed. he was her stand in
