I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

The big subtext: It's low-grade unusual for Catholic bishops to do sign-on letters with other traditions, but high-grade unusual for a *group* of bishops (as opposed to individual prelates) to do so in a way that pushes beyond what the USCCB has done, much less on the same day!
Oh: so you know that USCCB letter challenging the GOP-led budget bill?

It appears a group of Catholic bishops — including the Archbishop of Washington — wrote there *own* letter w/many other faith leaders that's MORE critical and straight-up asks Senators to vote against it.

This is very unusual!

Reporter’s note: I’ve been covering Barber for a long time, and I’ve never heard his voice catch like that at an event like this.

Barber grows visibly choked up:

“We know the people of this country. We have blessed their babies. We have listened to their confessions. We've buried their dead, and we've celebrated the values they hold dear. If there has ever been a time that pastors…rabbis and Imams, must stand up, it is now.”
