Welcome, my lovelies. I've misplaced my welcome post (prolly under a cat or a pile of books), so, here's a new one.

I'm a food writer, omnivorously rambling here in Waterloo Region (Canada).

My posts are disparate, and range from current affairs to art to food to whatever's happening in my life.
Two maple leaf-shaped sugar cookies, flooded with red icing. They sit on a fancy, embossed white plate, next to a rather utilitarian red tea mug.

Well, then. I sat down in the tv temple to do some writing and rewatch a dvd before returning it to the library. All of a sudden, I acquired a new laptop.

Radiohead fans, this is for you.

Before, mainstream food gatekeepers kept *their* food biases front and centre: basically, if it ain't bland, it's panned.

I blogged about what I ate, global flavours, my learnings, while contributing to a supportive, early SM food community.

I'm now a food writer and radio food columnist.

Arguing against this vote, “the Austrian MEP Anna Stürgkh…said consumers were unlikely to be misled. ‘A beef tomato doesn’t contain any beef … Ladies’ fingers are not made of actual ladies’ fingers. Let’s trust consumers and stop this hotdog populism.’”

Last week's column was about apples & the apple fritter divide we've got here. So, are you team ring or team doughnut ?

You can listen to it here.

Nigel is hiding. I do not know where he is.

Well, it looks as if this strawberry farmer will have a bumper crop in a short while.

Or is that bumpy crop? 😆

What a lovely message from @bookshop.org. Glad to see them growing and growing. We CAN claim back what has been taken from us by these monstrous corporations, and it starts with things like this. Grab some books these next couple days!

A bonus article from me!

Toronto food writer Suresh Doss is known for finding those delicious spots often overlooked by mainstream food narrative.

I was thrilled to be asked to chat with him about his new show, Locals Welcome, on CBC Gem, & what makes a hidden gem.

More adventures at Casa de Cardamom. On top of the internet outage, paving crews decided to return (the abandoned us weeks ago, w slalom course like road bc of holes and pylons). Now there are patches and pylons everywhere, inc in front of my driveway. Needed to drive on lawns to get in and out.

Reminds me of the woman who complained *I* ruined her child's birthday because my chocolate cake recipe "sucked" when she made it gf, df, egg-free, subbed carob for chocolate, & used a different pan size (of an atypical material).

I think my area has 3 three main providers; resellers use their infrastructures.

My reseller charges ~30% less with the same amount of downtime. Normally I can get through pretty easily, so there must be something happening.
cardamomaddict.bsky.social
I was with a lovely independent reseller (super great staff) but they got bought out by one of the big boys...can definitely tell a difference in service...and service.

My internet has been down since before 1am. In the queue with my provider. I chose “home internet.”

Their auto attendant told warned about high call volumes and said to go online to troubleshoot.

“Other polls say the opposite…”

“Which one?”

“Uh … I don’t know. But the poll you cited is clearly biased….”

“How exactly?”

“Uh … which poll was that again?”

This is how it’s done.

It’s very easy, and it gets results, so if an anchor isn’t asking basic follow ups, that’s a choice.

Those aren't his lovey eyes-- his lovely eyes are all pupil -- very Puss'n'Boots -- and there's a specific head tilt. That's his "hey, you can pet my tummy if you want to, because I like you" look :)
