Getting to know the birds coming back to Cardinal Valley is a perfect excuse to take a hike. One of the easiest to recognize is the Northern Cardinal. This one was nesting in the restoration area. Boldly beautiful and finding what they need, food—shelter and a place to raise their young.

This land was once wasteland. Chat piles. Waste from lead and zinc mining. No one could live there. Now, Webb City, MO is home to hundreds of plant, animal, and fungi species. And it's a pretty beautiful spot for us people, too.

At least one third of all waste that ends up in landfill is organic matter that could be composted! Imagine all the food that could be grown if everyone had the time, knowledge, support, and resources to compost. Even better, imagine if every neighborhood had community composting!

The Cardinal Valley film crew was on the lookout for these very cheery natives know as bidens. We enjoyed their golden splendor, and good viewing can be found out at the wetlands.
