In 2016, the British people voted overwhelmingly that the nation's new polar research ship should be named "Boaty McBoatface" and were thwarted. With hindsight, it is reasonably clear that is when everything started going to shit.

There is no better breakfast in the world than a masala dosa or paratha and dhal/curry.

Yes! The (increasingly popular) minority opinion that "appeasement was good, actually, because it gave Britain time to rearm" is arguable because Britain did, in fact, spend the last years of the 1930s massively rearming. We appear to be doing ... not that.

What? Do you dispute that Brianna Ghey died? Or that Esther Ghey is her mother? If neither, isn't it pretty gross to say that Esther Ghey is "not an authentic bereaved mother"? Would you consider putting your political disagreement with Esther Ghey (perfectly legitimate) in a less awful way?

There seems to now be a viable and potentially repeatable business strategy that is "bait Elon into buying you out of your company for a 40% premium by calling him a dick on the internet." Anyone who isn't at least having a go is failing their shareholders.

It looks like it has been redecorated by the estate agent. I like to imagine that the owner's actual decor was just completely and enjoyably mental. Liberace themed sex-dungeon and Mr Blobby wallpaper throughout. All lost to Knight Frank, like tears in the rain.

Rachel Reeves and Arsene Wenger are the same person: prove me wrong.

I (and Arsenal fan) feel exactly the same from the other side. Spurs are a rival, Chelsea are a disgrace.
January 13, 2026 at 11:35 AM
Chelsea was traditionally very white, and with a substantial and visible contingent of outright NF, racists and anti-semites (of course Arsenal fans have not been blameless on latter, but never as bad). Unsurprisingly, that has led to a pretty horrible atmosphere at Chelsea-Spurs. 2/2
January 13, 2026 at 10:58 AM
My impression is that it isn't a traditional rivalry like Spurs-Arsenal, but whereas Arsenal and Tottenham have always had similar demographics, and friends, neighbours and family supporting each side, that isn't the case for Chelsea 1/2

The world's largest wind farm, no less. Very bad for Viscount Ridley's coal mine, that. Much better to build a white elephant / Bond lair tax haven instead.

I have just seen her madballs post about "persecution of Ukrainian orthodox Christians". What a tremendous nutter. Where do they find these people?

I - ok, a London resident - am gobsmacked to learn that it is legal to park on pavements anywhere. That is deeply counterintuitive to me, and I had always taken it as a given that the pavement is by its nature the place that cars are not allowed. Fascinating.

I believe that the time has come for extreme measures, and if it was good enough for the finest navy the world has ever seen, we should not be squeamish about the occasional exemplary execution of a planning officer.

Share of freehold is usually or often a disaster in a larger blocks. My dad's block is slowly degrading as they fail to secure buy-in from a large minority to do the necessary refurbishment. They never will, the building will fall apart, and then they will be refused planning permission to rebuild.

It is the War of 1812, except that the Americans have inexplicably decided to pull down the White House themselves before the Royal Navy can get it done.

I think it is best conceptualised as being a down-payment on not being seen as awful people by our main trading partners. In a world in which we had not repeatedly acted in a way which has given them the impression that we are, it would have been easier to withdraw from Erasmus.
