Does anyone remember who we used to be?

But forget about Republicans, and I was never into Ben Shapiro.

Finished Josef Pieper's A Brief Reader on the Virtues of the Human Heart today. I'm interested in anything related to virtue ethics, but in particular today I was looking for anything that might stand out regarding dignity. It comes up here with the concept of Acedia.

Finally finished Kierkegaard's The Present Age (more accurately, I finally finished the essay included, "Of the Difference Between a Genius and an Apostle").

I find it helpful, alongside some other books (like KSPrior's) for thinking about what my calling is in life right now.

"After centuries of quests, the desires for an infinite mountain remain undimmed."
- Imaginary Peaks, Katie Ives

"To die for the invisible-
that is metaphysics."
- Immanuel Levinas

Readers of Levinas, Kierkegaard, C.S. Lewis, etc., will recognize the metaphysical element in mountain climbing.

If my argument in this blog post is wrong, I feel like maybe Catholics and Protestants together are probably wrong. Maybe Scripture is never clear, no matter how clear we think it is at first.

Someone on Twitter was saying the Nazis weren't socialists.

I kept mentioning the National Socialist Manifesto, and they cited other sources, which may have been decent. All the same...

My friend Vera and I drove to South Dakota and back to Colorado today (Jan 6th) to pick up this van that is being donated to me through a charity for missionaries.

This year, I feel like God (more than anybody else) pulled the trigger on making me a missionary ("church planter")

But then when I went home I couldn't find the place where I read about it. Like any reasonably buzzed person I had to find the reference before going to sleep.

Ended up talking with him about abstraction and tedium in code, & he countered with a good point about testing; so I pivoted to say that types & tests are like two different abstractions to deal with tedium: how I thought Bruce Tate argues for strong testing over strong typing.
