I love the pyramidal colophon in this ed., btw. (I also love Dolly.)

I ate there once before its end and it was… OK? The cousins I ate with really liked it. I thought the service was a little haphazard and the food was not as good as any of many similar menus in the same general part of town.

This is a very high grade of Rotunda, but even so, you can see in these details that an O is made with two sweeping curves instead of the 4-6 angular strokes of a northern Textualis. The same is true of most letters with bows: they actually have curves, rather than "curves" made of straight strokes.

The script is Littera Gothica Textualis "Rotunda" or Southern Textualis, which I don't think we've looked at in this series. This is the version of Textualis typical of Italy & Spain. It obeys all the canons of Textualis, like biting, but in contrast to the northern version uses more curved strokes.

Hint: it helps if you made that friend when you were undergrads 40 years ago and then she went to div school.*

*This may be like one of those recipes that begin by telling you you should have started soaking the beans yesterday.

Honestly, what does it mean to guard against nostalgia? Suppress all sense memories? Forget the people you've loved who are gone? Convince yourself everything about your life before this moment was terrible? I'm not remotely convinced this is a healthy way to face the future.
