Critique is civil disagreement, at least over methods within one’s own political camp. Instead, you came in swinging with “you people” and insinuating I’m a shitlib. But go ahead. Keep gaslighting someone who literally agrees with you, both on this issue and probably 99.99% of other things.

I’m literally not downplaying it at all. Just reporting what I’m observing IRL. You’re a shitty person. We should be allies here, and your desire to fight is straight up wrecker behavior. Critique is fine, but putting words in my mouth isn’t okay.

There’s a big difference between noting a historical precedent and its effects on current reality and whining about an alleged lack of protests. If you think I’m saying anything but the former, you cannot read. I have no idea why you’re being so combative with me here.

That is EXACTLY what I said in my post. I’m literally a ML and also hate libs so I have no idea why you’re yelling at me. You’re shadowboxing with an idea of who you think I am and what you think I’m doing.

I’m not saying no one is protesting. But I guarantee you, as someone who literally works at a university and teaches students, that they are much more subdued than they were last year. I don’t want it to be the case, but there is a decided shift in the climate.

I wish I felt more like I had student support. But they’re exhausted and checked out. Granted, I’m also overwhelmingly teaching a gen-ed class, so that’s probably part of it. They’re just going through the motions and don’t see how much they need to think critically to survive.

Happy to answer any academia questions if people have them, but it is bleak out there. I’m trying to keep my head down, finish my degree, and get out. Hard to do when you’re constantly getting kicked around and everything seems hopeless.

The evils persist. But so do I. I guess.

Also, I don’t trust my students. I want to. But I read their work, and some would absolutely turn in their instructors if it meant they got an A. I can’t even get them to stop using AI and think for themselves even when the material is interesting.

It’s going to just happen. Faculty has been frozen in fear over Palestine stuff. They’re exhausted and hoping this will blow over. Morale is crazy low. Humanities and social sciences will probably only come out behind STEM faculty. I’m scared as a PhD candidate to do more and lose funding.

Too many of these groyper types are making their daddy issues everyone else’s problem…

It also is a reason for why young people aren’t out protesting now as much. If you can’t convince people who claim to be on your side (and they use state violence to stop you), how are they supposed to believe it would work against a hostile admin?
