EG: I mobilize to keep factory open, but globalization increases the cost of govt takeover and thus the level of mobilization above which govt intervenes. Anticipating this, I believe others will not show up and so I am less likely to show up myself. People here are strategic in the sense of Andy
carloprato.bsky.social
I agree with Andy that the distinction between naive and strategic is a useful way to get at this. The starting point is a theory of political participation (with expressive and instrumental motivations) and a stance on what globalization does. 1/2

I've been working on a new tool, Refine, to make scholars more productive. If you're interested in being among the very first to try the beta, please read on.

Refine leverages the best current AI models to draw your attention to potential errors and clarity issues in research paper drafts.

April 25, 1945 marks the end of the Nazi occupation of Italy. We honor those who chose to resist and those who died fighting.

The Benedicta massacre occurred between April 6 and 11, 1944, a few miles from my hometown. It’s the largest mass killing of the Italian Resistance, taking over 150 lives.

This is interesting. One can also interpret this in terms of aspirations—and maybe the connection between aspirations and expectations is cohort-specific. But still.

I haven't drilled down on the details of this survey. But even as anecdotal evidence of economic assumptions, it is clear that "relative deprivation" theory needs to be understood alongside a new "bubble" of economic expectations that will never be reached by most of us. www.cnbc.com/2024/11/22/s...
